A weekend in Phoenix
Musings on an upcoming trip
Hello!
So much has happened since we last chatted. My 2 year old daughter who has been in development, physical therapy, and speech therapy has all but caught up to her age range. My son has written 15000000 book series (“Pet Day” “The Room” “Pic-Man” and more!), and both Sean and I are working again. I have a new job and have fully left indie film distribution!
I’m the new Director of Film Production at AMDA as of February 16th.
I will admit. It’s great to not talk about how horrible the state of distribution is every. single. day.
I had no idea my skills as a filmmaker could be transferable to academia outside of teaching. I’m working with students to complete our Green Light process - to go through paperwork with regard to crewing up, safety, locations, intimacy/stunt coordinators and casting to have safe film shoots. I truly love my new job but learning the new chaos of a new environment and less time seeing my kids has been the main challenge. But health insurance!
The main reason I’m writing is to say that I’m heading to Phoenix Film Festival for the weekend of the 18th/19th for three separate events. I’m hoping if you’re in the Phoenix area, you’ll come say hi!
Microbudget Filmmaking Panel: Saturday, April 18 12:30pm
Film Screening of a movie I directed 16 years ago but we never released— THE END OF NICOLE KIDMAN: Saturday, April 18 3:40pm
Live podcast recording for Making Movies Is Hard on Sunday April 19, 12:30pm
Colin and I will be there on our first trip with just the two of us!!!!
With regard to our film BEST FRIENDS FOREVER (new title TBA), we’re shooting our pickups and cold open in late April/early May. Dates locked, location locked, casting and crewing up now!
Grateful to be telling stories and making movies. Thanks for letting me be a part of this community.
Best,
Liz
